A large portion of the fights between the women are fights that remain standing. The part I find interesting is that female mixed martial artists are predominantly coming from a striking martial arts or boxing background compared to the men. This is a general notation of course, exceptions exist but they are very rare. This is in my opinion a significant difference between the men and women when trying to understand the developmental difference between the two genders and their approach to MMA. Wrestling however, is considered by many as one of the most effective MMA base skills, is still by comparison missing from the repertoire of many WMMA fighters. This is of course my view on it, I will allow for any other reasonable explanations. If I had to guess it might be due to BJJ not requiring immense strength or power in order to achieve results. BJJ has been added to this particular list over the years as BJJ has expanded with the popularity of MMA almost as one. Judo, Taekwondo, and Karate are also very lucrative martial arts that women train often as self-defense or for combat purposes throughout North America. such as California, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico have many boxers and a number of women train boxing in those areas. BJJ on the other has probably gained more female students overall but the transition to MMA has been slow and steady. There are female wrestlers out in the combat sports world but they are not in abundance and not enticed or as encouraged as men are to become wrestlers. A large number of men have trained in wrestling and Brazilian Jujitsu before coming to MMA. I having been considering the training aspect of MMA as well. The men outnumber the women by an overwhelming amount in the sport but that might also be a bi-product of so few real good roster slots that it is simply better and more career rewarding for a talented female fighter to stick with boxing and other combat sports. As it turned out, the UFC’s expansion into WMMA might have been the very best thing to happen as it opened up opportunities for some up and coming female fighters that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. Their success seemed largely dependent on how the contracts were going to be handled and how the competition might react to the UFC once again helping themselves to a heaping amount of the available talent. I had my doubts a year ago that the UFC would be able to build a competitive women’s division outside of the top six to ten fighters. The debates most often degrade into the argument that the women lack the power and the speed that the men do thus leading to fewer exciting finishes and a slower much less polished array of skills to demonstrate. They acknowledge Rhonda Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and several others as being talented in their respective ways. Most of the forum fans will agree that there are talented ladies working in MMA.

They ask the same thing with threads like “Is it me or does WMMA suck?”, or “The UFC should get rid of WMMA cause im board of it.” (Spelled as the poster wrote it) There are so many threads about the same series of questions and doubts yet they generally point in the same direction as some fans defend the UFC’s venture into WMMA and others ridicule it relentlessly with narrow minds and even narrower visions. This past weekend after the UFC’s latest TUF season finale the two aforementioned areas of discussion merged into one prevailing debate Is WMMA evolved enough for the UFC market? Most of the forum dwellers do not articulate themselves well enough to narrow this topic down to the simple question above. The most recent recurring debates have been about women’s mixed martial arts (WMMA) and the infrequency of exciting fights or fighters. Certain themes continue to pop up over time as some issues linger for months and years or evolve into a whole new issue. MMA forums can be a treacherous place if you are not prepared but you can also learn many things and if you develop some good filters you can find out how the community feels about nearly every aspect to the sport. I spend a great deal of time on MMA sites exploring content and following forum conversations.
